Abstract: Based on Chinese multi-regional input-output tables in 2012, 2015, and 2017 from the Carbon Emission Accounts &
Datasets (CEADs), this study uses the improved revealed comparative advantage index (NRCA) from the perspective of value-added
trade to measure the export competitiveness of 8 sub-sectors of modern service industry in 30 provinces of China, and analyzes and
compares the competitiveness of modern service industry in eastern part of central western and northeastern regions of China. The
results show that:①the competitiveness of modern service sectors in most provinces is weak; ② there are fewer comparative advantage
sectors but more disadvantage sectors in the four major regions, and the distribution of these sectors is uneven within and between
provinces and regions, highlighting the phenomenon of unbalanced development; ③the NRCA of modern service industries varies
significantly in different years. Based on these findings, targeted recommendations are proposed to focus on developing sectors with
high NRCA, increase support for the modern service industry, focus on industry integration, promote industrial transformation and
upgrading, improve technological service capabilities and promote industrial development resilience.
